Seed library graphic

A seed library is a collection of harvested and donated seeds from your community. Seeds are then checked out and planted by gardeners in your community. At the end of the growing season, gardeners are then asked to harvest the seeds from their plants and bring them back to the library.

Seed Library Self-Checkout Procedure

  1. Choose up to 5 packets a day and up to 20 packets a season taking only what you need.
  2. Sign your name, email, and seeds chosen in the Checkout Notebook.
  3. Plant and grow the seeds. Enjoy!
  4. Harvest the seeds and return as many or more than borrowed in a sealed and labeled envelope with your name, email, and name of seeds checked back in.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What seeds are available?

A variety of heirloom vegetable, herb and flower seeds are available. We have over 30 types of seeds in varying quantities available. Please remember that all types will not be available during every visit. We want to make sure the Seed Library is available as long as possible throughout the season so seeds will be added regularly.

Why does LTPL have a seed library?

The purpose of the LTPL Seed Library is to inspire community members to grow their own food, create opportunities for gardeners to grow more varieties of plants in their garden, and to reconnect our community with the traditions of planting and harvesting.

Do you accept donations of seeds?

Yes! We are accept donations to help sustain the seed library. Seeds may be donated at the front circulation desk. Bring saved dried seeds back to the library in the fall in an envelope, paper bag, or other appropriate containers, and fill out the donation form available at the circulation desk. Download our donation form here.

DISCLAIMER: The library makes no claims as to the viability or purity of the seeds donated. The propagation of patented seeds is prohibited by law. LTPL will not knowingly accept these seeds for distribution to our community and discourages any of our Seed Library patrons from engaging in this illegal activity.
